{"id":252,"date":"2012-06-22T10:24:10","date_gmt":"2012-06-22T14:24:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yourfaircreditlawyernow.com\/?p=252"},"modified":"2021-01-01T17:43:35","modified_gmt":"2021-01-01T22:43:35","slug":"why-am-i-not-getting-my-credit-report-after-my-request","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yourfaircreditlawyernow.com\/?p=252","title":{"rendered":"Why am I not getting my credit report after my request?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Previous topics\u00a0have discussed <a title=\"How do I get a free copy of my credit report?\" href=\"https:\/\/yourfaircreditlawyernow.com\/?p=162\">how to obtain a free copy of your credit report<\/a>, and <a title=\"How to Examine Your Consumer Report For Inaccuracies\" href=\"https:\/\/yourfaircreditlawyernow.com\/?p=187\">how to review your credit report<\/a>.\u00a0 However, in some\u00a0instances consumers have an initial credit report problem because\u00a0they cannot get a copy of their credit report upon request.\u00a0 Simple reasons like entering incorrect data, transposition errors, and incorrect responses to security questions\u00a0could be the reason that a consumer does not receive a copy of their credit report, but\u00a0a larger problem could exist because of the manner in which credit reporting agencies store data.<\/p>\n<p>Credit reporting agencies receive information about consumers in bulk from furnishers, and they maintain that information\u00a0as data\u00a0in their computer system.\u00a0 When a potential creditor or consumer requests\u00a0a credit report, the credit reporting agencies\u00a0place the information provided into a matching algorithm system that compares the data input with\u00a0all the data that the CRAs\u00a0maintain.\u00a0\u00a0Because the matching\u00a0algorithms are proprietary, we do not know\u00a0exactly how they work, but it has been revealed\u00a0in\u00a0trial testimony that a nine for nine match of social security numbers is not a requirement\u00a0for a particular piece of credit data to match to a credit file.\u00a0 As a result, if pieces of furnished data\u00a0are incomplete\u00a0or inaccurate, the data will not match\u00a0to an existing\u00a0file which can\u00a0cause mixed files, merged files, or multiple files.\u00a0 Please see my previous post on <a title=\"Inaccurate Credit Reports Because of Mixed Credit Files and Merged Credit Files\" href=\"https:\/\/yourfaircreditlawyernow.com\/?p=173\">mixed and merged credit files<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When\u00a0consumers try to get\u00a0a copy of their credit report and they are unable to receive the report, the cause could be that the credit reporting agency has a mixed or multiple credit file concern about the data.\u00a0 The credit reporting agencies do not want to release the wrong consumer file about a\u00a0consumer that did not request the information, so they typically ask for additional identifying information and release no credit file.\u00a0 Credit reporting agencies do not want to release the wrong credit file containing another consumer&#8217;s information because they could be in violation of the FCRA at <a title=\"15 U.S.C. 1681b\" href=\"http:\/\/law.justia.com\/codes\/us\/2010\/title15\/chap41\/subchapiii\/sec1681b\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">15 U.S.C. 1681b<\/a>, which regulates how\u00a0consumer reports can be disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>The problem for the consumers that I have seen is that even after providing verifying information regarding their identity, like driver&#8217;s license, social security card, or utility bill information, the credit reporting agencies are still not providing a consumer file disclosure as required under the FCRA at <a href=\"http:\/\/law.justia.com\/codes\/us\/2010\/title15\/chap41\/subchapiii\/sec1681g\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">15 U.S.C. 1681g<\/a>.\u00a0 Consumers have real problems in this scenario because they are unable to review the information that may be inaccurate and the source of credit denials.\u00a0\u00a0If you have suffered through multiple attempts to obtain a copy of your credit file without receiving the report, I recommend that you talk to a FCRA lawyer about your situation.\u00a0 Please feel free to contact me for ideas or suggestions to help you resolve your problem.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Previous topics\u00a0have discussed how to obtain a free copy of your credit report, and how to review your credit report.\u00a0 However, in some\u00a0instances consumers have an initial credit report problem because\u00a0they cannot get a copy of their credit report upon request.\u00a0 Simple reasons like entering incorrect data, transposition errors, and incorrect responses to security questions\u00a0could &hellip;
